Elke Harrison, LMT

Clients are blown away by her gentle yet extremely effective approach to helping others manage pain and dysfunction!

Elke’s soft-spoken nature is the tip of a very deep iceberg of skills and experience. Read below why we are so lucky to have Elke Harrison on our Wellness Team!

Elke is a graduate of Deutsche Angestellten Akademie in Bonn Germany in 1995, receiving a degree in Physical Therapy.  She was in the United States for several years before laws changed regarding US physical therapy licensure, so rather than starting PT school over, she made the choice to complete massage therapy school in 2007 at the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy in Lake Charles, LA.  She is also a licensed esthetician.

To add to this very unique skill set, Elke became one of only two certified Schroth Best Practice Therapists in Louisiana in 2016 through the Schroth Academy in Nijmegen, Netherlands!  This is a conservative and effective approach to scoliosis.

Even further, the consummate student in action, Elke has also been trained in the John F. Barnes Myofascial Approach.  Her extensive training in this specialty includes Myofascial Release 1 and 2, Myofascial Unwinding, Myofascial Advanced Unwinding: Cervical-Thoracic, Myofascial Rebounding, and Fascial-Pelvis and Skill Enhancement.

When asked what makes myofascial release techniques a go-to for people with pain or muscle tension, Elke responded:

“I can achieve things with myofascial release that I can’t with regular massage. With runners or leg problems, I can spend a whole hour on just the legs! There are so many layers to soft tissue, some need deep work and some respond to more gentle techniques.”

What do you like about Louisiana compared to life in Germany?

“I can be outside almost every day in Baton Rouge, I don’t really care if it’s hot or humid! In Germany there are only about 6 months a year where being outside is tolerable weather.”

Fun Fact: Elke loves art fairs, parades, and festivals!
