With a personal and professional journey spanning seven states, Lanie Dewey, PT, DPT brings a unique blend of experience, energy, and enthusiasm to Brown Rogers Physical Therapy & Wellness.
Lanie earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Anderson University in South Carolina before completing her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at High Point University in North Carolina in April 2022.
Following graduation, she embraced life as a traveling outpatient orthopedic physical therapist, gaining experience in various locations, treating patients of all ages and activity levels. The opportunity to work with diverse patient populations and clinical teams broadened both her clinical expertise and her perspective, preparing her to confidently care for a wide variety of orthopedic conditions.
What Brings You to Baton Rouge?
Lanie's journey to Louisiana began with her husband, a Baton Rouge native.
"I met my husband, Ashton, in North Carolina. He had a goal to become a Louisiana State Trooper, which became a reality this year, so this was a perfect landing for us!"
Brown Rogers quickly became the perfect place to continue her career, where her passion for orthopedics, active living, and patient-centered care fit right in.
A Therapist Who Practices What She Preaches
If you've spent any time around the engaging and energetic Lanie, you've probably noticed she's always ready for the next laugh, adventure, or workout.
She's often the first to organize friendly fitness competitions among the staff. One memorable day, coworkers discovered that her car just happened to contain a soccer ball, volleyball, and workout equipment...just in case a game or workout presented itself!
"I love movement, activity, and sports. I also believe it's my responsibility as a physical therapist to stay active and healthy myself.
Practicing what I preach though my own fitness journey helps make me a better therapist for my patients."
Growing Up in Ohio
Originally from the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, Lanie experienced all four seasons growing up.
"As a kid, snow days were exciting, but the winters could be so cold your skin and face actually hurt. Living in Louisiana has definitely made me appreciate the mild winters, especially in January and February."
Her favorite season in Ohio?
"Fall, without a doubt. School festivals, hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches—those are some of my favorite childhood memories."
Experience Across the Country
Before settling in Baton Rouge, Lanie spent more than three years as a traveling physical therapist, completing assignments in outpatient orthopedic clinics across the country.
Her primary assignment was in Crestview, Florida, but she also worked in Arizona, Alabama, and South Carolina. Seeing diverse patient populations of all ages and backgrounds strengthened both her clinical skills and her adaptability.
Those experiences gave her confidence to handle just about any clinical situation.
"I'm really good with big changes—moving to a new state or starting somewhere new doesn't bother me at all. It's the little changes, like a last-minute schedule adjustment, that can throw me off!"
Specialized Training
Lanie is certified in Dry Needling, an evidence-based treatment technique that can help relieve muscular pain, improve mobility and alignment, and support recovery when combined with a comprehensive rehabilitation program.
She is also a strong advocate for Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy, an innovative technique that allows patients to build strength and improve muscle function using lighter loads—especially beneficial following injury or surgery.
One of Lanie's treatment philosophies is progressive loading. Whether a patient is beginning with light resistance, free weights, or progressing to our squat rack, she believes that appropriately dosed strength training is beneficial at every stage of life.
"Strength is for everyone. My goal is to help patients move with confidence, build resilience, and realize they're capable of more than they thought possible, whether they're returning to sports, keeping up with grandchildren, or simply living without pain."
Fun Fact
Lanie's home is shared by three four-legged companions: her dog, Sam, and two cats, Willy and Joan—who keep life entertaining when she's not in the clinic, working out, or enjoying the outdoors!
